Youth Sports Leagues
According to a recent CNN report, there are an estimated 41 million children playing competitive sports in America today–engaging in a healthy and active lifestyle. In addition, there are an estimated 10 million parents who volunteer between 10 and 20 hours per week of their valuable time to coach or be team mothers for these children. These individuals invest in the lives of our youth to develop character and teach the principles of commitment, integrity, teamwork and dedication to a common mission.
Surgance unites uncommon partners on common ground social issues in order to change lives and transform communities.
With this program, we unite communities across the country to show appreciation to the volunteers and encourage the children to maintain a healthy lifestyle. The goal is to promote volunteerism for adults and activity for children for our community-based youth sports league partners because we understand these things are essential to building and maintaining strong communities.
We do this by providing each league individual with an end-of-season bag of valuable products and offers from our local business and national corporate service partners. Free to the participant, the gifts within these bags are worth hundreds or potentially thousands of dollars and are made specifically with the recipient in mind. For example, adults receive bags with one set of contents, while children receive bags with a different set of contents, while teenagers receive bags with yet a different set of contents. Boys get things made for them, while girls get things they want and love.
We do this at zero cost to our league partners as a service to them and the community through donations and corporate gifts-in-kind, all coordinated by Surgance and our volunteers.

Gift of Glove
At a youth baseball game in the Dominican Republic a simple act of kindness—repairing the gloves of the opposing team’s players—turned into a passion for underprivileged ball-playing youth around the world.
Since that first game, Surgance volunteers have collected and distributed new and experienced gloves, repaired and delivered them to hundreds of young athletes with dreams of baseball glory! Through a common ground passion for a sport, relationships grew and life changing skills emerged. Through the Surgance Sports program, young people’s goals for athletic achievement are being connected to success beyond athletics.
What? The goal for 2010 is collect and distribute 10,000 donated gloves to underprivileged youth in the Dominican Republic, Canada, the Middle East, and the USA.
Why? While helping to increase global interest in the game, these gifts provide an extraordinary platform to initiate and nurture positive relationships that help youth with life skills, athletic advancement, and academic achievement.
How? Volunteers collect and donate new and experienced gloves to Surgance Sports; Surgance volunteers repair and/or distribute them.
Who? Surgance Sports is a volunteer-driven program. We need volunteers for: setting up donation stations, collecting gloves, volunteering and mobilizing other volunteers to repair and/or distribute gloves, and spreading the word!

“Dominican players practice and play the game of baseball every day of the year. Those who are fortunate enough to have gloves simply wear them out after several years of use; most can’t afford to buy a new one. I have said, ‘Giving a glove to a young Dominican baseball player is like giving an American kid a BMW.’ God has given us many ways to express our faith through love: you can visit an elderly person, mentor the child of a single parent, help your neighbor in various ways, or repair gloves for young boys in a third world country.”
