Individual Exercise

After the the 'Scenarios' reporting concluded, the participants began an individual exercise in which they separated from one another, for the first and only time of the day.  Each being issued the same instruction sheet containing another scenario (everyone had the same scenario) and markers and a poster board to capture their thoughts and design concepts—the focus:  'What Could Be'.

Using the poster to create their model of success, the scenario and questions (below) guided their thoughts.   Using diagrams, pictures and images, they made their thoughts come alive. 

 

 

Scenario:

The date is January 25th, 2009.  The success that you envisioned for The Center for Excellence back in January of 2008 has been greatly surpassed.  The Center is up and fully operational, it is funded and it is providing great services to the people of Las Vegas.  Further, you and your organization have both supported The Center and in many cases used The Center to transform the city. 

You are at the 2009 New Members meeting and you’ve been asked to give an overview of The Center for Excellence and how it was able to become operational and successful.

Instructions:

In your overview describe the overall model of The Center and the part you and your organization played in its success.  As you create your model consider the following:

  • Describe the model of The Center for Excellence as it is today (September 2009)
  • What services does it provide?
  • What impact is The Center having for the people of Las Vegas?
  • What is the physical nature of The Center?
  • What services are delivered virtually?
  • What was your role in the success of The Center?
  • How was The Center funded?
  • What key actions were taken back in the first quarter of 2008 that insured success?
  • What are the key success factors for launching The Center?

As the group reassembled, the participants were given instructions on beginning the model consolidation process.
