updates

March 4, 2008

It has been just over a month since we convened for the Center for Excellence Visionary Retreat, and we wanted to take this opportunity to update those who participated in the retreat as well as those who indicated an interest in becoming involved in the future.

Thanks to all of you who completed the survey about our retreat!  We received lots of positive feedback and some constructive suggestions for future sessions.

As one survey respondent noted,

β€œIt was very useful to have people from different backgrounds to get a variety of ideas.”

Another person noted,

β€œ(There is) a wealth of diverse and passionate talent in our community and the growing awareness for the need to build nonprofit capacity and effectiveness.”

Below are some highlights of what has happened since the retreat:
  • Our facilitative partner, Surgance, worked with the Visionary Team to develop a website for the Center for Excellence that details the agenda, brainstorming and idea sharing of the retreat.
  • A special features writer from the Las Vegas Review-Journal interviewed one of our founding visionaries about the Center for Excellence and the overall effectiveness of local nonprofits.  This article should run in the near future, so be on the lookout!
  • Responsible Citizens for Nevada, an organization of concerned citizens who are emerging leaders of our community that seek to improve the quality of life in Nevada, asked one of its own (Stacey Wedding) to make a presentation to its board on the state of the local nonprofit sector and to provide highlights on the Center for Excellence retreat.  Brian Audia, Executive Director of Surgance, and Karen Galloway, Financial Director at S.A.F.E. House, joined Stacey in sharing their perspectives on the leadership development needs of the nonprofit sector and their impressions of the Center for Excellence retreat.

In addition to the above, the Visionary Team has given a great deal of thought to our next steps, priority items, and when to best engage you.
